No. Cleaning happens entirely on your Mac - your clipboard is never uploaded, logged, or sent anywhere, and there's no account or analytics. The one exception is Expand Share Links, which is opt-in and off by default: only if you turn it on, and only for a short link you actually copied, CopyClean contacts that service to resolve where it points - sending the link itself and nothing else. It's the lone networked feature; we don't claim "no network access," we claim nothing you copy is uploaded.
That strips formatting - bold, fonts, colors - but not invisible Unicode. Zero-width spaces, AI watermarks and the narrow no-break space (U+202F) survive a plain-text paste. CopyClean removes those, automatically, in every app - including ones where the native shortcut doesn't work.
Yes. CopyClean is about your privacy, clean typography, and stripping tracking - it removes invisible characters and tracking cruft from text you already have the right to use. It is not a tool for fooling AI detectors, and we don't claim it beats them: detectors mostly judge writing patterns, not hidden characters, and nothing reliably evades them. Cleaning a watermark off text you wrote or own is no different from deleting a stray invisible space.
No. Code Detection leaves code alone - a zero-width space won't sneak into your editor and break a build, while AI watermarks are still scrubbed. Emoji stay whole: the zero-width joiners that build family emoji, skin tones and flags are preserved (including the VS16 presentation selector). And cleaning is locale-aware, so Thai and Khmer word-breaks, French spacing, and Arabic/Hebrew direction marks are kept rather than corrupted.
It removes the invisible characters and typographic "tells" that AI text carries, so your writing reads clean and neutral.
